Speaker Bio
Luke Brubaker is the founder of Brubaker Farms LLC, which is now under the ownership and management of Luke’s two sons, Mike and Tony, and grandson Josh. Luke transformed Brubaker Farms from the 18-cow dairy operation he bought from his father in the 1970s to today’s operation, which includes 2,200 milk cows, 1,500 replacement heifers, and 250 broiler chickens, and farms enough land to support the livestock. He continues to work on the farm - operating, advising, and coordinating public relations.
Environmental and economic sustainability is top of mind for Brubaker Farms. The farm has approved soil conservation plans in place to ensure that soil resources are protected, and livestock operations comply with the Pennsylvania state government rules for nutrient and odor management. Additionally, the farm has two methane gas digesters to convert cow manure into energy, providing power to 600-700 homes in the Mount Joy area.
Luke is not only an active farmer, but also an outspoken advocate for agriculture. He recently retired from the Pennsylvania State Farm Bureau Board, and is an active member of the Lancaster County Farm Bureau. He is a past chairman of the Pennsylvania State Milk Marketing Board and was a board member for 21 years. Luke served on the Lancaster County Farmland Trust Board of Directors, was the president of the Lancaster County Farm & Home Foundation, and was chairman of the Lancaster County Farm Service agency. Additionally, he has served on the East Donegal Township Board of Supervisors, previously serving as chairman. Luke is currently serving on the State Agriculture Preservation Board. Luke received the Top Producer of the Year award, presented in Chicago in 2013 by Farm Journal.
Luke has participated in agriculture-related roundtable discussions at the White House at the invitation of President Donald Trump and at the U.S. Department of Agriculture with former Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue.
Luke has traveled to Russia three times, Ukraine, Belarus, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Morocco, Guatemala, Bolivia, and Vietnam, to try to help farmers better themselves there.
