Mr. Jiang Lyu is the Minister for Economic and Commercial Affairs at the Chinese Embassy in the United States. Before that, he had been Deputy Director-General of Trade Remedy Investigation Bureau (TRIB) of the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) of China since 2016.
Lyu started his career as a diplomat and interpreter for Chinese leadership at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in 1995. He was appointed Deputy Director with Bureau of Fair Trade in MOFCOM in 2003 and then with the MOFCOM Office for International Trade Negotiations in 2004. From 2008 to 2016, Lyu worked with the Anti-monopoly Bureau of MOFCOM as Deputy Director and then Director, overseeing M&A issues and China’s overall competition policy.
Minister Lyu has comprehensive experience in international affairs, trade law and anti-trust issues, and has been working closely with policymakers, industries, lawyers, scholars and other stakeholders in the relevant areas.
In addition to above posts, Lyu spent a total of four years working, on secondment, as senior-level official in local government (as county board deputy chief) , China Iron & Steel Association and a trading company.
Lyu graduated from the English Department of China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU) with a BA and has a master degree in international law from University of Sydney Law School.
