South of Philadelphia, born and raised on his father's mushroom farm is where Lou Caputo spent most of his days. Discipline and work ethic were instilled at an early age. Summers and evenings after school were spent sweeping up mushroom grow rooms. Having worked in every position at the farm, Lou learned the industry from the ground up.

Faced with tough competition from foreign imports, Lou had concerns that the agriculture business was nothing more than a race to the bottom. Not to be discouraged, he focused the business on service, uniqueness, and quality along with price to hold onto the exotic mushroom share his father had originally captured. Today, Lou is CEO of the largest specialty & exotic mushrooms in the country, with the largest selection of 100% organic varieties.

Waiting & watching the organic growth of specialty mushrooms, Lou felt the time was finally right for a branded, consumer facing division of Caputo & Guest. Lou is leading the “Shroom Boom” and driving sales of specialty mushrooms on the centerplate and the spotlight of any eating occasion by assisting consumers with being comfortable with such strange fungi.
